Callanan Industries ‘Ride with Mike’ Event Raises $12,000 in Donations for the NYOH Community Cancer Foundation
[Albany, N.Y.] – On August 18, Callanan Industries presented the NYOH Community Cancer Foundation with a $12,000 check from its annual Ride With Mike fundraising event held on August 7, 2022 at the Brunswick Community Center. This annual 50-mile police escorted event is named for Mike Walsh, long-time Callanan Construction Superintendent and two-time Lymphoma survivor. This year, the event was in memory of Ron Martin, who was a Callanan employee in the Construction division and cancer survivor who passed away unexpectedly in 2020.
Walsh’s diagnosis and his love for his sports car led to the inception of the first ride in 2016. The motorcycle and sports car procession led by Walsh and escorted by the local Sheriff’s Department meanders throughout parts of scenic Rensselaer County and ends at a local park for a BBQ and raffles.
Callanan employees, customers, and construction partners have raised over $70,000 in the six years they have hosted the event. The NYOH Community Cancer Foundation has been the beneficiary of the fundraising proceeds for the past three years.
“Callanan strives to be able to support the community in which we live and work. We are proud to come together as a team to help support this worthy cause from an idea born out of supporting one of our own, Mike Walsh,” said Don Fane, President of Callanan Industries.
NYOH Community Cancer Foundation’s mission is to alleviate financial hardship for community members diagnosed and living with cancer, allowing them to focus on treatment and improve their quality of life. “On behalf of the patients we serve, we cannot thank Callanan enough for their continued generosity of hosting this fun summer event. We are grateful for their support in helping someone with cancer in our area pay for their month’s rent, get to a life-saving medical appointment, or eat a nutritious meal with their family,” said Rachel Hye Youn Rupright. “The Ride with Mike event hosted and organized by Callanan shows that by coming together, our community is greater than cancer.”
NYOH Community Cancer Foundation is the philanthropic arm of New York Oncology Hematology and serves Greater Capital Region residents undergoing cancer treatments.
