Courage & Cancer: Evening of Stories Event Raises Over $47,000 to Support Cancer Patients

The NYOH Community Cancer Foundation is delighted to announce that its inaugural event, Courage & Cancer: Evening of Stories, was an astounding success, raising over $47,000. The event, held at The Linda, WAMC’s Performing Arts Studio, on Thursday, May 25, 2023, brought together a compassionate community dedicated to alleviating financial hardship for individuals diagnosed and living with cancer.

Attention Sewers: Seatbelt Chemo Port Pillows

The NYOH Community Cancer Foundation is distributing over 150 handmade chemo port pillows for patients at multiple NYOH locations, thanks to the sewing talents of Judi E, Pat G, and Midge D.  Thank you each for your time and sewing talent! Wearing a seatbelt can be uncomfortable with a port.  These little pillows can provide a buffer.  If you would like to lend your skills to this simple, yet meaningful project, check out this flyer for a supply list and suggested instructions.

Patient Care Bags: Volunteers and Donations Needed

Starting cancer treatment can be a physically and emotionally overwhelming experience. By creating a care bag with small items and a kind note, you can provide some encouragement to an NYOH patient starting treatment.  Ideal for any workplace teambuilding effort, youth project, or service activity, the NYOH Community Cancer Foundation is seeking patient care bags from our community.  We will distribute the bags to patients at an NYOH cancer site. It might still be chilly winter out now -- but back in August, Creighton Manning Engineering was celebrating the summer with staff dress down days, outdoor barbecues, and more to support the NYOH Community Cancer Foundation.  For several summers in a row, the generous staff at Creighton Manning have organized these small events to raise awareness around cancer.  Thank you!

Runnings in Gloversville Donates $600 Raised at October Ladies Night Event

Thank you to Will Bullis and the team at Runnings in the Gloversville for hosting an October Ladies’ Night fundraiser and breast cancer awareness event on October 19! All 57 stores nationwide hosted an event with proceeds donated to local cancer charities.  Thank you for presenting a check for $600 to the NYOH Community Cancer Foundation!

Sending Extra Holiday Cheer

Our Foundation is celebrating this giving season by sending extra holiday cheer to some NYOH patients.  Our volunteers were busy last week sending gift cards with glitter and handwritten warm wishes to patients (they also helped stuff envelopes for our end of year mailing!). Thank you to Price Chopper for donating $500 in gift cards and Stewart’s Shops for donating $500 in gift cards! Your support is making a real-time difference helping people with cancer enjoy their holiday. We appreciate your commitment to our local community.

2022 Mechanicville-Stillwater Breast Cancer Walk

The Mechanicville-Stillwater Breast Cancer Walk presented a check for $18,000 to our Foundation last Thursday night! This incredible committee of all volunteers hosted the annual community walk on October 9, raising cancer awareness and funds in memory of Jessica Mitchell, who died in 2008 of breast cancer. We are humbled and grateful for being one of the three organizations to receive proceeds from the Walk, alongside Mollie Wilmot Radiation Oncology Center and the American Cancer Society.
